Santander Alternative Investments
Designing a multi-stakeholder investment platform that balances internal operations with client experience
00
/////// problem
Santander Asset Management needed a comprehensive investor portal to streamline investment management, user onboarding, and account administration. The challenge stemmed from the complexity of accommodating both internal and external user needs while managing input from multiple departments including compliance, legal, business, and technology. These divergent perspectives often led to misaligned priorities and a lack of centralized vision, threatening project cohesion and usability.
/////// solution
The project resulted in a unified platform experience that supports onboarding, investment tracking, and account operations in an intuitive and secure interface. A design strategy centered around real user needs was employed through service blueprinting, stakeholder workshops, and user testing. Iterative prototypes and continuous feedback loops ensured alignment between user expectations and business requirements. Cross-functional coordination between design, research, and development helped parallelize workstreams and reduce production inefficiencies.
In a project where alignment and adaptability were key, my role was to facilitate collaboration between departments and pursue the implementation of a user-centric design process for the project. From the beginning, I led discovery sessions with internal business champions to map out workflows and generate a shared understanding of the platform’s goals. This allowed us to co-create a service blueprint that structured the user journey and backend operations holistically.

I guided a team through each phase of the design process—from initial personas to detailed prototypes and usability tests. By working in close collaboration with business, legal, and technology teams, I ensured the platform's interface addressed compliance and security constraints while remaining accessible and user-friendly for investors.
A critical part of the project was maintaining momentum across parallel teams. Through structured planning and continuous communication, I ensured that research, design, and development were synchronized. This approach accelerated delivery and minimized redundant iterations.
Beyond project execution, I supported my team by creating an environment that encouraged participation, ownership, and innovation. Through collaborative workshops and design reviews, I helped team members grow their strategic thinking and broaden their skill sets.
This was a year-long, multifaceted project that required end-to-end involvement across nearly every phase of the product design process. It challenged me to lead cross-functional teams, navigate complex and often competing requirements, and ultimately deliver a solution that strikes the right balance between usability and operational effectiveness.
